State of the Garden

The walking path of the Chef's Garden in bloom with the greenhouse in the background.
September is rapidly winding down. This is a season of change in the garden. It seems like the sunny and dry days might last forever, but we know that they are fleeting. We have been working hard this week accomplishing projects which will be much less pleasant when wet and muddy.

garlic

The garlic is planted. We will have green garlic next spring and elephant garlic bulbs next summer.

fava beans

The fava beans for June harvest are next on our planting list.

patty pan squash

This is the last of the patty pan summer squash.

zucchini

We have pulled the plants and planted cover crop seeds in their place. The zucchini is made of sterner stuff. It is still producing. Yes, the volume is decreasing, but they are still flowering and fruiting.

carrots

In our hustle and bustle of harvest season, we have been ignoring carrots as they quietly grow. We started with a modest harvest amount this week. We will have more in the weeks to come.

delicata and butternut squash

We are waiting for the delicata and butternut squashes to finish maturing. We should harvest them this next month.

tomatoes

Tomatoes are still producing. This coming week is forecast to be cooler and wet which will reduce the amount of harvestable fruit. Their end is in sight.

peppers

Peppers are also still producing but at lower volume than previous.

celeriac

We are ready to start harvesting celeriac. We have a lot so should be good for some time!

fennel

We have also started harvesting the next round of fennel.
Come on out to see what else we have planted in the garden.  -Anna
