This alien-looking object is from our gourd collection, which we grew this year. I think it is from the Crown of Thorns mix. Look for them throughout the hotel this fall. That’s just the gardeners’ way of embracing the changing seasons.
Winter Squash
I am impatiently waiting for the remaining winter squash vines to die so we can harvest the acorn, butternut, and delicata squashes. We want the rind to be as mature and hard as possible so that they store well.
radicchio

The earliest of the radicchio varieties is ready for harvesting. We brought in this one as a sample. We have planted several varieties and will harvest them throughout fall and winter.
Lettuce
The lettuce continues to grow well. We should start harvesting greenhouse lettuce next week.
Saffron

It’s saffron time once again. Yes, harvesting saffron is a bit tedious, but the result is very satisfying. At the end of the season, we’ll bring in all that we harvest and dry it thoroughly.
Sunchokes
Sunchokes are plentiful this year. We harvest them when requested, as they do just fine staying in the ground.
Cauliflower

We will start harvesting cauliflower this coming week. The orange variety is first, followed by purple. There might be some other colors hiding in the cauliflower patch that I haven’t noticed. They are sneaky. When I’m busy elsewhere, they put on a growth spurt, and suddenly, there’s a beautiful head of cauliflower staring at you.
Pumpkins

We still have more of the “soup-bowl-sized” pumpkins to harvest.
Come on out to the Garden to see what else we have growing.
