Chefs Garden Fall Edible Flowers

Fall is here, and change is in the air. Currently, we have plenty of edible flowers. However, we are heading into a week of cooler rainy weather, which will be challenging for the marigolds. On the other hand, the violas should enjoy the cool rain.

Tomatoes

We have harvested the last of the tomatoes. They are not as nice as mid-summer tomatoes.

Peppers

We will harvest the last of the peppers this coming week or the following week.

Zucchini

This zucchini couldn’t decide whether it wanted the yellow or green motif. This sort of appearance as we near the end of the season is not unusual. Zucchini is truly a warm-season crop. I expect we will harvest for another week or two.

Winter Squashes

We are watching the winter squashes (Delicata, Butternut, Acorn), waiting impatiently for the outer rind to become hard enough to store well. We will harvest them in the next couple of weeks.

Parsley

The second planting of parsley is fantastic! We will harvest until it gets killed by a hard freeze. If you run out, let us know, as we have plenty.

Fennel

We continue to harvest fennel. It loves cooler weather, so it looks perfect.

Fall Cauliflower

We are excited about the upcoming fall cauliflower. It’s not harvest size yet, but the promise is there. We had germination failure with the early purple variety, so the orange variety will be the first to be harvested. Just be aware that we have a large planting of cauliflower.

Celeriac

We have started harvesting celeriac, which we have planted a lot of.

Sunchokes

Sunchoke harvest has begun. We’ve just scratched the surface. You can request as many as you’d like to process.
