state of the garden

Chef's Garden Fresh Chamomile

Fresh chamomile is a sure sign that spring is marching on. We harvest and dry these flowers for future use.

Snap Peas

Chef's Garden Snap Peas

It looks like we will have some snap peas by this coming Friday! They are a cooler-temperature crop, so they should thrive this coming week. Let’s hope for no heat waves, which would spell the end of any pea harvest.

Herbs

Chef's Garden Dill Plants

Herbs are growing well. We were able to find a few self-seeded dill plants from which to harvest some leaves. We have planted more, which will be ready soon. The parsley will take off after we get it into the ground this week.

Berries

Chef's Garden Green Strawberries

There are green strawberries. We are anxiously waiting for the season of ripe berries to begin. I saw the very first bloom of wild blackberries. Soon, we will have local berries.

Tilling & Planting

Chefs Garden Dump Trailer

The soil is dry enough for tilling and planting, and we’re thrilled to be off to the races. We have hundreds of plants eagerly waiting to go into the ground. The weather next week will be cooler and cloudier than this past week, the perfect transplanting weather.

Turnips

We harvested the first of the turnips this week. More will be ready next week.

Rhubarb

Chefs Garden Rhubarb

The rhubarb continues to grow enormous leaves and sturdy stalks. It’s a reliable spring plant.

Lettuce

Chefs Garden Greenhouse Lettuce

Springtime is lettuce season. We are planting weekly and hope to continue to do so. We are growing the lettuce in the greenhouse and some stock tanks outside. We are looking forward to being able to plant it in the ground.

When you need a break, come to the Garden to see what else we have growing.
