The summer garden is taking shape! We have all been busy bees preparing the ground for planting. The big push was to get all the beds shaped, fertilizer applied, and drip tape in place before the forecasted rain on Sunday. It is much easier and quicker to get that work done when it is dry than after rain when it compacts the soil. Wet soil is heavier and thus harder to rake than dry soil, so we were highly motivated to finish.
Fava Beans
We will harvest the first of the fava beans this coming week. We planted the favas in October, seven months ago! They were stoic in the face of all the winter weather. Now, they are rewarding us with wonderful plump fava bean pods.
Lettuce
We planted lettuce in the newly prepared outdoor space. We should be able to start harvesting in a couple of weeks. We are transferring all the lettuce out of the greenhouse as it is getting too hot for their liking. However, we have plenty of lettuce to harvest before the newly planted lettuce comes into its own.

Snap Peas
We will harvest snap peas this week if the gardeners can keep from eating the ever-so-inviting peas. At this point, we anticipate a large harvest. That can change with a heatwave, which causes the peas to revolt and drop out of production immediately.

Parsley
Parsley is in the ground. It should have some harvestable leaves in a couple of weeks.
Chervil
We are still harvesting the chervil, which is flowering, and waiting for the new crop to graduate from the greenhouse to the great outdoors. It will grow quickly to fill the gap when the first crop finishes.
Basil
Basil just got transplanted into larger pots. It is only an inch high.

This time of year, the Garden is changing rapidly. So come to the Garden to see what new plants we have growing.
