Last week, I thought the overwintered cauliflower wouldn’t be ready for a month. However, I looked closer this week, and lo and behold, we’ll harvest purple cauliflower within the next two weeks!
Overwintered Purple Broccoli
The warmer temperatures and sunny days are pushing the broccoli. We have a bountiful crop of overwintered purple broccoli. Overwintered crops never fail to astound me. They were seeded in July and planted in August, then hunkered down to endure winter storms. Now, in March and April, the hungry months of eating seasonally, we have beautiful produce. Enjoy this season!
Miner's Lettuce

Miners’ lettuce is also abundant this year. A year ago, the plants were sulking about their winter treatment (if plants can sulk). They are now making up for their lackluster performance in 2024 with an abundant crop this year. We harvested the first leaves on Friday.
Fava Beans

The fava beans are looking great. Last year, they froze in January. This year’s photo shows the very first fava bloom bud. But don’t panic yet. It will take them until late May before they are harvestable.
Springtime Gardening Tasks
Sunny, breezy days dry the soil so the gardeners can get to their favorite task: weeding. We are slowly working our way through all the perennial growing areas, weeding, mulching, and fixing irrigation.
News flash: Peppers are sprouting! Tomatoes are seeded! The spring gardening season marathon has begun.
Come to the garden if you would like to enjoy the daffodils with us. While you are there, you can see what else we have growing.
