We are hopeful that the weather this weekend is a last-ditch effort of winter reluctant to let go of our region. Daffodils are remarkably resilient. Once the snow melted, they slowly resumed their cheerful heralding of spring. Besides the very soggy ground, all the plants were unfazed by the morning snow blanket and temperatures in the low 30s.
Purple Broccoli | is our current garden mainstay. We are harvesting as the broccoli is ready.
Leeks | are ready. We’ll start harvesting as needed, as we would like to have the space ready in the next month to prepare for a succession crop.
The green garlic can be harvested anytime. However, there is always a fine line between waiting until the plants are taller and avoiding bulb development.
As we remember, we will add radicchio to our lettuce mix. The radicchio has come through the wintery weather with flying colors, literally!
Hopeful news from the herbs: the tarragon, mint, oregano, and chiveshave resumed growth. However, they are all still very tiny. If the weather cooperates, we might get a light harvest in a couple of weeks. We will keep you posted.
The fava beans keep plugging away. They are a couple of months away from harvest. W will loosely plan for harvest in late May into June.
All of the heat tables in the greenhouse are at capacity. We will be in full transplant mode very soon. We will fill the entire greenhouse with potted transplants waiting for the weather to change so they can go outside, but that is in the future.
In the meantime, come to the garden to see what else we have growing!
