The fiery red blooms of the crocosmia herald “Summer”! They are not edible for humans, but they do draw in hummingbirds. We started with just a couple of plants four years ago and liked them so much that now we have them in several places in the flowerbeds.
Peas
The peas are finished for the season. We mowed them to till them into the soil this next month.
Lettuce

Lettuce survives the heat with the help of shade cloth. We are harvesting weekly.
Tomatoes

The tomatoes are looking good. We will be harvesting tomatoes this month.
It takes the plants time to grow root systems to support their expanding canopy and fruit.
squashes, cucumbers, and melons
The squashes, cucumbers, and melons are growing. There are no blooms yet, but they will come.
By the end of the month, we’ll have plenty of squash.
Gypsy Peppers

Gypsy peppers are coming along. We are as impatient as you are for pepper season to commence.
Plums
The first of the plums will be ready next week. We will harvest some and bring them in. After two years of no plums, seeing fruit on the trees again is excellent.
Seedlings
This heat wave is challenging for the plants. Seedlings in pots outside are under a table, which we draped with shade cloth. They should be ready to go into the garden by the end of next week.
Elephant Garlic
We will harvest the elephant garlic next week. Let us know when you need some in the kitchen.
Come to the garden to see what else we have growing.
