State of the Garden

We planted a summer cover crop of phacelia (purple flowers) and buckwheat (white flowers) where we will plant the fall and winter vegetables next month. It is keeping all of the bees really happy.

tomatoes

The tomatoes are still shy about showing their colors. Just know that they will soon be abundant.

shishito peppers

The shishito boom has started. Time to break out all the recipes for using them. We will harvest about 1-2 times per week.

blueberries

Blueberries from across the road are ready. We are harvesting them twice a week and will continue to do so until the berries are gone. Enjoy their peak flavor.

zucchini and patty pan squash

The next summer vegetable at the beginning of its long production run is the summer squash, both zucchini and patty pan. We are currently harvesting them every other day. As the season progresses, we will move to harvesting daily. Yes, they grow that quickly!

cucumbers

Also on the near horizon are the cucumbers. Tiny ones are developing, and before we know it, they will be full-sized. We will harvest them when ready.

dill

Finally, a new planting of dill is ready! You will see the results in the walk-in this week.

Come on out to the garden, as everything changes quickly at this time of year. See you in the Garden.
