The micro-greens we planted this time of year are flourishing. Today, we have 9 hours and 21 minutes of daylight. If one works outside, this is a big deal! The plants in the greenhouse certainly appreciate more minutes of light. As a result, we have plenty of micro-greens.
We’ve been harvesting radishes as they reach a usable size. We’ll continue planting and harvesting to have a regular supply.
The lettuce will be ready for harvesting soon. It grows under a tunnel of chicken wire because of our mouse-catching cat’s affinity for digging! We are focused on staying on top of succession lettuce planting. Only time will tell how successful we are as summer comes our way.
We have several Georgia Candy Roaster squashes stored in the greenhouse. This year we’re experiencing more storage issues than in the past so some squashes won’t make it to processing in the kitchen. If you can use them sooner rather than later, that would be good.
Here’s the broccoli this week. It’s progressing nicely. We should be able to harvest some in another 7-10 days.
Since we are getting close to harvesting the first of the overwintered sprouting broccoli, we have been checking them frequently. Guess what we noticed? Damage from mice or voles on the stems and leaves of some plants!!! We have taken the appropriate action to stem that issue with satisfactory results. We’ve been in that area of the Garden more, and the garden cats have started snooping around and doing their job. Better late than never.
We’re working on providing additional rodent control by building an owl box and a kestrel nesting box. We have installed the kestrel box by the Garden.
In the meantime, come to the Garden to see what else is going on!
