The shortest day of the year is rapidly approaching. Today, we will receive 8 hours and 47 minutes of daylight. Even the violas, which thrive in cool and damp are looking forward to more sunlight.
In the greenhouse, the micro-greens now take about twice as long to reach harvesting size compared to six weeks ago. We anticipated this slowdown and have compensated. We continue to have plenty of micro-greens for your use.
We are still between lettuce plantings, so nothing is available yet.
Hiding underground, we have sun-chokes or Jerusalem artichokes. (Why that is a common name escapes me.) Anyway, we have just started harvesting; there are plenty left.
There are still daikon ready. Not all are in the giant, five-pound category. Some of the daikons are smaller than the spray nozzle. Let us know when you need more.
We have a good crop of Dragons Tongue Mustard large enough for us to start harvesting. The cold weather brings out the purple and red highlights on the leaves.
We have more of the large winter squashes in the greenhouse ready to become soup.
We also have fingerling and sweet potatoes. Let us know when you need more.
We had an excellent response to celeriac last week. As a result, we’ve harvested the entire crop of 2022, and there is no more lurking in the garden.
We have a huge crop of purple sprouting broccoli showing the beginnings of heads in a couple of plants. They aren’t ready yet. We’ll keep you posted about when broccoli will start flooding in, just not yet.
In the meantime, come to the garden to see what else we have growing. Just bring an umbrella!
