The first California poppy opened this week! We went from soggy ground last week to full-on spring. This is the time of year when there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that needs to happen.
Pea Shoots
We have pea shoots until the end of the month, after which they will be tilled under. We could perhaps consider lightly harvesting the edible peas, as we had good germination and will probably have more peas than you want to see.
Broccoli, Cauliflower & Flowers
The broccoli, cauliflower, and their flowers are finished. We have mowed the garden to facilitate soil drying and start the breakdown process of the cover crops.
Radishes & Turnips
We’re planting radishes and turnips weekly. We will include carrots as the conditions are better for germination now.
Rhubarb

It is time to harvest rhubarb. We were waiting for the stalks to lengthen. The growth this past week is astounding. Sunny days and warm temperatures both day and night spurred plant growth. Spring is such a fun time in the garden!
Herbs
We have harvestable tarragon and mint, so ordering from outside is unnecessary.
Fava Beans

The fava beans survived the winter with flying colors—look at all the blooms! We expect to be able to harvest them next month.

These are busy days in the garden, with rapid changes. So come on out to see what’s growing!
