Edible Violas In Chef's Garden

The garden crew rejoiced to have a few dry days this past week. It still wasn’t dry enough to do any dirt work, but they were able to mow the grass, which was threatening to take over the world.

PURPLE SPROUTING BROCCOLI | The gardeners harvested the bulk of the crop of The Allison’s final purple sprouting broccoli variety. There are a few tiny sprouts that were overlooked, but not for long. They will be pulled, and the ground tilled as soon as it is dry enough.

LEEKS | The gardeners are harvesting leeks as needed but will want to gather the rest of them before they need to clear the ground for the next season’s crops.

RAINBOW CHARD | The rainbow chard looks good, and we advise the chefs to check before ordering from outside.

PARSLEY | The gardeners continue to harvest parsley by the bucket load.

PATTY PAN SQUASHES | The Allison gardeners have started patty pan squashes in the greenhouse in hopes of early squash blossoms and fruit.

CARROTS, RADISHES, TURNIPS, AND BEETS | In the outside stock tanks, the gardeners have started carrots, radishes, turnips, and beets. They will plant every 7-10 days until they run out of room.

TARRAGON | The tarragon is still small and available to chefs at this time.

VIOLAS | Slowly but surely, The Allison is gaining more edible flowers. Right now, The Allison has violas, but soon will have borage to add to the list.

The cats have reminded Anna Ashby, our master gardener, that they are still on the job of rodent patrol. They prove this by periodically leaving “gifts.”
