All of the summer flowers are keeping the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds fed. It’s interesting to just take a minute to watch all of the insect activity. The flowers of the cardoon usually have several honeybees in them. Whereas the flowers on the phacelia and buckwheat have honeybees, bumblebees and a bunch of tiny native bees.
honey
The good weather and the fields of clover flowers enabled us to harvest some June honey this week. If the weather is cold and wet, it takes the bees longer to evaporate the moisture from the honey, so the honey is not ready until late July.

cucumbers
We have found some tiny cucumbers about one inch long. It will be another week or two until any are ready for harvest!
tomatoes
Look what I found peeking out of the leaves – the first of the tomatoes. This is the sum total of the ripe tomatoes, so you will have to be patient a little bit longer before there are enough to use.

blueberries
black raspberries
The black raspberries are finished. More to come next year!
herbs
zucchini
Today, we also harvested the first zucchini of the season. They start slowly, but in a couple of weeks, we will be harvesting daily.

lettuce
We continue to harvest lettuce twice a week and plant new seed each week to keep up with demand.
microgreens
Microgreens are gradually catching up. We will continue with our new planting schedule.
Come on out to the Chef’s Garden to see what else we have growing.
