Fennel
The fennel is in full bloom right now. The bees are super happy about that, and they will share flowers with us when the JORY kitchen decides they want some.
Baby Fennel
The Allison garden also has baby fennel. Since it’s a million degrees this week, the gardeners are pouring water on them to keep them alive. Anna Ashby, the master gardener and beekeeper, says, “I expect that they will quickly grow beyond the baby stage.”

Cauliflower
The gardeners managed to get all the cauliflowers planted. Again, because of the heat, they are watering by hand in addition to the drip tape because their roots need extra help. The gardeners have covered it with shade cloth for a few days for additional support.
BROCCOLI
The broccoli is waiting its turn to be transplanted. The gardeners will wait until Friday when it finally cools. Transplants in 100+ degrees suffer.
MELONS
The melons are looking good. The Allison can hardly wait for them to ripen. The gardeners are optimistic that the cats will do their job and keep the voles and mice away from ripening melons.
BUTTERNUT & DELICATA SQUASH
The butternut and delicata squashes are coming along. Right now, The Allison will have a bumper crop. However, we will wait a month before celebrating.
CELERIAC
The celeriac is sizing up nicely, and there is a boatload of it, so brush off your celeriac recipes because you’ll need them in the next month or two.

SWEET POTATO
Sweet potatoes are lurking under these luxurious vines. Plenty of leaves and vines exist for anyone who wants to experiment using them in some form or fashion.

In the meantime, come out to the garden early, so you can see what else is growing.
