Winter Skin Remedies

Spa tips & picks for skin recovery after harsh winter months.

•Basic lotion or moisturizer isn’t going to cut it. For the next month or two, you’ll need a heavy, rich cream to help replenish moisture. My top pick for the face – Rescue Cream by Kerstin Florian (can’t live without it), and for the body – Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Body Treatment.

•Pat dry and apply! Keep your moisturizers at a reachable place to apply before even stepping out of the bath or shower. Moisturizing damp skin immediately after bathing will show significant results.

•Avoid harsh soaps for cleansing. Using gentle cleansers and soaps which contain natural ingredients like chamomile, aloe, honey and coconut oil. Top picks – Naturopathica’s Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm, June Jacob’s Creamy Cranberry Cleanser and OM4MEN’s Desert Succulent Hydrating Cleanser. Tip: be cautious of foamy cleansers. The ingredients which create those bubbles can strip the skin and be very irritating. Balms and milky cleansers are a much safer bet.

•What is exfoliation exactly and why is it important? Your skin is constantly renewing itself by replacing old skin cells. This is great, but the issue is that these old cells linger at the top layer of your skin. Exfoliation is what’s needed to sluff away those unwanted cells. Without this extra process, all of the yummy products mentioned above will not penetrate the skin properly.
