State of the Garden

The life cycle continues for our showy milkweed. The fluffiness is packed inside the seed pods. As the pod matures, it splits exposing the fluff with an attached seed to the wind. We are finding the fluff all over the place. It will be interesting to note if we have milkweed volunteers next year.

tomatoes

Tomato time has arrived. You know what that means, tomatoes on every flat surface that we can find in the kitchen. Enjoy the bounty of August by eating plenty of gazpacho and tomato salads!

lettuce

Lettuce is a little slower than it was. We continue to plant weekly so we will soon be back to full supply. We will keep you posted.

zucchini and patty pan squash

The zucchini and patty pan squash are keeping up their steady production. We harvest daily, which has minimized the number of zucchini boats.

potatoes

The potatoes are blooming so if anyone wants young potatoes let us know. Otherwise, we will simply let them grow to maturity.

melons

Brace yourselves, we harvested several melons which were sun damaged, but there are a lot more lurking on the vine. Fortunately we have differing maturity dates, but it will seem like they are coming all at once.

micro-greens

Micro-greens are plentiful. We are working to keep it that way!

herbs

Herbs are also growing well. We have new plantings of basil, dill, and parsley to relieve the pressure on the older plantings.

peppers

As if we didn’t have enough that was in abundance, the peppers are claiming their share of the limelight. The first of the gypsy peppers turned red, as well as some paprika peppers, hot cherry peppers, and Fresno peppers.

For what else is growing in the garden, you will have to come out to see what I’ve missed.

See you in the garden!  -Anna
