State of the Garden

It’s the time of abundance in the garden. We have plenty of squash blossoms which we could harvest, if you are interested.  We also have a wide array of edible flowers.

micro-greens

We have finally caught up with micro-greens. We should be able to keep the kitchen stocked.

tomatoes

Yes, tomatoes have arrived. Currently, we are harvesting twice a week. We are hoping that will be frequently enough to keep the tomatoes in check.

tomatillos

In the same family as tomatoes, the tomatillos are ripening. We harvested the first of the crop this week. As you can see, we have three varieties, purple, green, and yellow.

peppers

It is pepper season, so they are starting to ripen. We have a lot of peppers on the plants, the shishito plants just keep pumping out peppers. I counted over 30 peppers from one shishito plant! The moral of that story is to use the shishitos before they overwhelm the kitchen! There are also a few hot peppers starting to turn red.

beans

Plants in the nightshade family are not the only ones producing abundantly. Beware of the green bean harvest. They are growing like they are supposed to in August, in other words, lots and lots of them. As you know, we have yellow, green, and purple beans all producing at the same time!

zucchini and squash

There are so many summer squashes and cucumbers ready to use, they are all producing abundantly. The squashes need harvesting daily. If we don’t, they turn into zucchini boats!

Honey

We harvested our portion of the honey this week. Naturally, the bees disagreed with us. This kept us busy on top of our regular vegetable harvesting.

Now is a good time to come on out to the garden to see what else we have growing which I have forgotten to mention.

See you in the Garden!  -Anna
