This year, we planted most of the gem marigolds in one growing bed. Not only does it look amazing, but it’s also easier to harvest. We have yellow, orange, red and a red/orange mix variety. As you can see, we have plenty, so enjoy them until the rain and frost arrive.
lettuce
We are still planting and harvesting lettuce weekly. We have a good rotation going. The plants themselves grow quickly this time of year. So far, we are keeping ahead of any bitterness from the heat. Hopefully, we can keep it that way!
cucumbers
Last week was our warning shot about the cucumbers. This week, they are going full steam ahead. We need to harvest every other day to keep them from getting out of hand.

peppers
Pepper season has arrived. The plants all look great. As usual, they are very productive, which means we’re hauling loads of peppers into the walk-in.
tomatoes
Tomatoes are still slow to start. This is probably normal, and I’m just remembering the height of tomato season harvests. At any rate, we will be picking them twice a week.
eggplant
As long as we are talking about the nightshade family, consider the lovely eggplant. We have some to harvest!

beans
The biggest news is that fresh beans – both green and yellow pole beans – are ready. We planted less than last year, so hopefully, our harvests will be more manageable!

Now is a great time to visit the Chef’s Garden since everything is changing so quickly!
