State of the Garden

Chef's Garden Dahlia
The garden and the gardeners have been enjoying the cooler weather.
The dahlias, in particular, are much happier if it is not blistering hot.

Transplanting Winter Crops

We had a perfect week for transplanting winter crops that we seeded last month. We kept commenting on the difference between the temperatures while transplanting the cauliflower this year and last year. Last year, it was over 100 degrees. It was brutal, and we had to do some fancy footwork to keep the plants alive.

Melons

We started harvesting the first variety of melon this week. This year, the goal is to harvest a bit sooner than dead ripe. We should have melons for three weeks or so. It looks like a good harvest is on the vines.

Peppers

We will start harvesting the ripe paprika, jalapeño, and Serrano peppers this coming week. We harvested the first wave of Gypsy peppers this past week. As usual, there is a large crop still to harvest. We will continue to harvest as you continue to use them.

Lettuce

The lettuce benefitted from some cooler days. We are back to harvesting twice per week.

Beans

We have beans upon beans. We need to reduce the amount we plant.

It's Zucchini Season!

Better lock your car doors- it’s zucchini season. As usual, we have plenty. Use it in everything.

Tomatoes

As you can tell from the multiple speed racks filled with tomatoes, we have plenty. We are harvesting twice a week.

Come out to the garden to see what else we have growing.
