Chefs Garden Pea Shoots

Despite some freezing rainy days this week, spring is marching on. We harvested the first of the pea shoots. We only have them for a short time in spring before they get turned under to feed the soil, so enjoy them while they are around.

Sunchoke Tubers

Chefs Garden Sunchoke Tubers

Sunchoke tubers are putting out roots and shoots. As plenty of tubers remain underground, harvests can be expected to continue for a couple more weeks.

Kale Raab & Collards

Let us know if you would like to use Kale Raab or flowers. The kale and collards have abandoned leaf production in favor of seed production. The bees are enjoying the flowers when the weather is suitable for flight.

Planting

We’ve completed our first outside planting of various vegetables to be harvested as miniature vegetables. We’re eagerly looking forward to harvesting some baby vegetables by Memorial Day. We’ll plant again in a couple of weeks as it is subject to the whims of the weather.

Rhubarb

Chefs Garden Rhubarb

The rhubarb is coming along. It needs to grow another 2-3 weeks before it makes any sense to harvest. As you can tell from the photo, the stalks are very short.

The Greenhouse

Greenhouse space is shrinking as we transplant more tiny plants. We are planting more each week. An excellent situation is that the cats are keeping mice at bay, so we do not have any nibbling on the transplants.

Miner's Lettuce

Chefs Garden Miners Lettuce

This spring has apparently been perfect weather for miner’s lettuce. It’s looking perfect, and there’s more coming on than we anticipated. So, rest assured, we’ll have more. We harvest it on request.

When you get a chance, come out to the garden to see what we have growing.
