Fresh Lavender Blooms In Chefs Garden

The first flowers are blooming in the pollinator meadow south of the chef’s garden. So far, the garden has California poppies, lupines, and the pictured flower, which is toadflax. The gardeners will attempt to identify all the flowers throughout the summer to keep themselves sharp!

The garden is gathering steam, plants are putting down roots, weeds are annihilated, and water is dispensed.

SHELLING PEAS & SNAP PEAS | The shelling peas and snap peas continue producing loads of perfect peas. The gardeners harvest as they are ready.

KOHLRABI | The gardeners will harvest the kohlrabi this week. It ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 inches; they have done very well this spring.

STRAWBERRIES | The strawberries are slowly off the mark this year. Anna Ashby, the master gardener, finally saw the first red berries. They will give the strawberries a little extra attention to see if they can encourage production.

FAVA BEANS | The end of the fava beans is in sight! The garden has one or maybe two more pickings to go before being finished. The plants are done with being the garden stars for the season and are moving on to the next phase of their life.

BABY FENNEL | The gardeners will probably harvest the baby fennel this week.

LETTUCE | Anna says, “We should harvest the first field-grown lettuce next week. The weather has been kind to it thus far.”

MICRO-GREENS | Micro-greens continue to grow well. They are in good supply.

CHAMOMILE | Chamomile has begun harvest.

LAVENDER | The first of the fresh lavender blooms for the year are calling the bees.

Come out to the garden and see what else is growing!
