State Of The Garden

Chefs Garden Fava Beans

Instead of March Madness, gardeners participate in May Madness when they scramble to get the summer crops in the ground. Once planted, the gardeners will have to drag hoses around or fix the drip irrigation system, which was dismantled for the winter. Don’t forget that the grass is growing at the speed of light. To say the gardeners are busy is putting it mildly!

TOMATOES | Tomatoes are in the ground, and the irrigation in that zone is mostly working okay.

GARLIC SCAPES | The gardeners harvested the entire crop of garlic scapes this weekend. The garlic grows by leaps and bounds after languishing all winter.

LETTUCE & MUSTARD GREENS | The gardeners will harvest more lettuce and mustard greens this week. This is probably the last cutting of these mustard greens, as it’s getting too warm in the greenhouse. The next planting of lettuce is going in the ground outside instead of the greenhouse.

FAVA BEANS | Fava beans will be ready in about three weeks. The gardeners just connected the irrigation in that zone, so they’ll grow even faster.

GREEN STRAWBERRIES | Green strawberries should develop fairly quickly since the gardeners are now irrigating them. We’ve had a hot, dry two weeks.

THYME & SAGE | Thyme and sage will start getting harvested this week.

Come out to the garden to see what else is growing!
