Rain, Rain, Rain
It’s been a quiet week in the garden except for the sound of rain. Snow and ice are a faint memory washed out by mild temperatures and rain, rain, rain. The ground is saturated with standing water and running water in unusual places. All in all, the garden is soggy.
It isn’t easy to tell because of the heavy cloud cover, but our day length is 45 minutes longer than a month ago!
Spring is steadily marching closer.
Lettuce
Meanwhile, in the greenhouse, plants are growing well. Most of the stock tanks are full of lettuce in various sizes, which we are harvesting.
Radishes
We harvested the radishes, and they are back to newly seeded rows. We will bring them in when they are the appropriate size.
Seed Order Lists
We are making seed order lists and doing our best not to overlook anything. It is fun to compare different cultivars and decide which one will be perfect this year.
Microgreens
Micro-greens continue to grow well. We have a good supply.
Overwintered Broccoli & Cauliflower
We found evidence of mice gnawing the stalks of the broccoli. The cats are not inclined to sneak through large, soggy plants. However, they are happy to keep the greenhouse and shed mouse-free, so they are not total free-loaders. Anyway, the gardeners had to deal with the broccoli mice.
The overwintered broccoli and cauliflower look a bit worse for the freeze but are still on track to provide a lot of product over the next couple of months. We will let you know as we draw closer to harvesting.
In the meantime, come on out to the garden between rain storms.
